Programming and Future Internet
ICT education for children and future society

Lecturer: Mr.Osamu NAKAMURA(Professor of Keio University/ W3C KEIO site manager)

July 15, 2014 (Tue)

Internet, mobile phones and smartphones have widely spreaded these days,
therefore it became common to use software or applications both officially and privately in our daily life.

Furthermore, all that works by electricity such as cars or home appliances is controlled by computer. "Programming" which build the base of those control is the foundation of modern science and also the basic of Japanese specialty "MONOZUKURI"(manufacture). We think it is necessary for each kid to learn minimum knowledge of programming.

In the current environment of learning programming, MEXT(Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Sceience and Technology) offers the programming learning service "Programin", in addition, Google, Cyber Agent, Inc. and others hold programming lessons. Their attempts draw many people's attention. In some developed countries, Programming would be compulsory at elementary school from this September. Programming education for kids has started worldwide.

Here in Fukui at various events, by use of programming environment "progrun",
some graduates of National Institute of Technology Fukui College have held lessons for kids to enjoy and learn programming. Many kids have joined the lessons starting from last June in Angelland Fukui(Science musium for children).

We established the Programming Club Network(PCN) for the purpose of continuing programming lessons and creating learning environment of higher level.
PCN aims to spread the programming and to support education and proposal policy about programming.
