In the warm weather that signaled the arrival of spring, the "PCN Kids Programmer Fair 2026" was held at the Tsuruga City Plaza Bansho Grand Hall. Many children gathered at the venue, proudly displaying their programmed works and robots. The theme of the venue this year was "festival." Stalls lined the exhibition space, and works were displayed in abundance. Not only the works themselves, but also the decorations of the space and stalls were all done by the children, creating a colorful and unique atmosphere.
At 10:30 AM, the event kicked off with an opening ceremony. 34 works were on display, a diverse array of games, apps, robots, and more. All exhibited works were interactive, and many visitors, from children to adults, stopped to enjoy each one. The child programmers who exhibited their works introduced them to visitors, engaging with them directly. They were also seen calmly answering questions from adult programmers, demonstrating their confidence and dedication to their creations. There was also lively interaction among the exhibitors, with conversations naturally blossoming even among strangers, thanks to the business cards that were distributed. In addition, a "sticker rally" was held, allowing visitors to enjoy exploring the venue. Collecting stickers at four locations within the venue earned participants a novelty keychain and sweets. Each sweet came with a short message, which was then delivered to the child exhibitors.
As the exhibition hall bustled with activity, the artwork presentations began at 11:00 AM. The children stood in front of the screen and presented the highlights of their works, the points they focused on, and the thoughts they poured into their creations. Their confidence and pride in their work was evident as they conveyed their stories within the limited time, and the visitors listened intently.
A programming workshop open to everyone was also held at the venue. This time, games themed around a "festival fair" were prepared, offering a variety of experiences such as a shooting game where CamRobots guard targets, a game where participants rhythmically beat drums on a screen, and a corner where they could program simple games. Children were seen engrossed in the activities and having a great time. In addition, a workshop was held where participants could learn about cybercrime prevention while playing. This was planned by a team that participated in the previous exhibition, and visitors could experience it in two ways: Scratch and VR, enjoying an immersive experience. Other exhibits included an improved abdominal exercise machine from last year, and hardware and circuit boards created by PCNs from various regions.
Furthermore, food stalls and food trucks were also present at the venue, adding to the enjoyment for visitors. Local specialties from Tsuruga City, as well as dinosaur-themed sweets unique to Fukui Prefecture, were on display, creating a lively, festival-like atmosphere. Many visitors were seen enjoying the food in between viewing the artwork and participating in the hands-on activities.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where 22 entries received awards from sponsoring companies and organizations, including NSD Co., Ltd. In addition, 15 entries received the "Favorite Award," selected by PCN (Programmable Club Network) members from various regions, and the children who received awards had bright, cheerful expressions on their faces. Afterwards, a commemorative photo was taken with all participants, including the Robocon contestants, and the event successfully closed. The venue was full of energy until the very end, and it was a memorable day filled with the passion and smiles of the children.
